| About the Artist | (1931-2012, American) John Nelson Battenberg Attended the University of Wisconsis in 1949, earning his Bachelor of Science at the Minnesota State University in 1954. Later he studied art in both England (Ruskin School, Oxford University 1955-1957) as well as in Italy. In 1960 he worked on earning a Master of Fine Arts at Michigan State University, completing this degree at the California College for Arts and Crafts in 1964. Battenberg later became a professor of sculpture at San Jose University until retiring to pursue making sculpture full time. He was best known for his series of bronzes treating pilots as well as for his treatment of North American wildlife. Very often his wildlife depictions employed a style he likened to three-dimensional drawing. |
