About The Coiled Gap Stitch Olla
This is a early example of Pima basketry showing its age! Worn and missing some stitches, it will lend its integrity to any room honoring turn of the century Americana.
The Pima Indians of the desert Southwest are known for basketry that is made primarily of willow and martynia (devil's claw) in a very labor intensive process. For more information. refer to Indian Baskets of the Southwest by Helen Tanner as well as my personal favorite The Basket Weavers of Arizona by Bert Robinson.
