View Full Size Image of Wide Geometric Cuff Sterling Silver, Copper, Red Brass, Jewelry by Allen Kee
Sterling silver sheet, rolled from ingot was the outline and largest component material used to create this unique bracelet. Copper and red brass, rolled by hand, with a hand crank mill were used to fabricate the interrupted chevron decoration wrapping around this work of art from end to end.
Each piece was precisely cut and fit into position, prior to hard soldering the pieces edge to edge, which takes a master to accomplish. There is no overlap anywhere. The soldering was done from one side. The presentation or front of the bracelet was carefully finished to create a smooth, but not mirror polished surface.
Shaping on a mandrel was done to fit the wearer's right wrist with the design exposing the right wrist bone joint.
Only small adjustments can be made due to the very nature of its custom construction.
Both Allen Kee and his cousin, Kenneth Begay, left work at the White Hogan in 1962 to teach young artists on the Navajo reservation.
