| About the Artist | (1945-2019, Cherokee) Well known for his illustrations of traditional Cherokee animal stories found in numerous books, Jacob's received numerous awards throughout his career including over 50 honors and two titles as the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers' Illustrator of the Year. He also won the Oklahoma Book Award in 2003 for his illustrations in "The Great Ball Game of the Birds and Animals". The artist also chose to portray traditional and modern Cherokee dances, villages and natural environments. His home base was Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Initially spending time in San Francisco, Jacob created posters for musicians like the Grateful Dead before returning to Kansas, eventually settling in Tahlequah. |
