Each of the 32 birds and 32 bears was created by hand, using a variety of tools. From grinding wheels and saws for cutting and shaping to files and wheels for buffing to final polish, each creation is unique.
A fine bit drill used to pierce each piece for stringing, was also used to create the eyes, which have been filled with black or red material inlay.
The fetishes are strung on cord with olivella shell heishi. The creatures are graduated in size, larger to smaller and the three-strand ends are gathered into hand made sterling silver cones. A sterling hook and eye, fabricated with silver wire, are the closures the necklace.
These silver components and the hand-rolled shell heishi were either purchased or acquired in trade by the artists.
