About the Artist | Born in Baghdad in 1937, Mordecai Moreh immigrated to Israel in 1951. He has lived and worked in Paris and Jerusalem since 1961. "A graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art, Jerusalem, who continued his studies at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts and the Beaux-Arts de Paris—Moreh draws on the painterly and graphic work of such artists as Albrecht Dürer, Matthias Grünewald, Pieter Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch, Francisco Goya, and Odilon Redon, observing violence, suffering, and absurdity around him." taken from a curator's commentary associated with the artist's latest exhibition titled Moredecai Moreh: An Almost Sane World held at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art from June 1, 2023 through October 28, 2023. |
