About Marie Watson
(Born circa 1940, Navajo) Best known for her raised outline weavings, Watson has also utilized Wide Ruins and Burntwater designs as well as a rug within a rug motif.  Her compositions tend to be highly complex employing a multitude of colors.

Examples of her textiles have been featured in various issues of Arizona Highways.  Lois Jacka's hardbound publication Beyond Tradition:  Contemporary Indian Arts and Its Evolution (1988) includes an illustration of Watson's weaving on page 132.  Gregory Schaaf covers Marie Watson in his book American Indian Textiles 2,000 Artist Biographies (2001) The Museum of Northern Arizona hosts an example of Watson's weavings in their permanent collection.
