About Karl Brandstätter

Karl Brandstätter was born in Kluperfort, Austria in 1946.  He studied at the Academie Des Beaux Arts in Vienna. He studied under Johnny Freidlaender and won a prize for his work, including a scholarship to work in Friedlaender’s studio. 

Brandstätter’s works are generally semi-abstract and expressionist and some feature nudes in larger settings.  His specialty is contemporary printmaking using aquatint. The artist’s use of color is subtle, sensitive and somber.

His work can be found in prominent collections such as the Albertina in Vienna; the Bibliotheque National in Paris and the Landesgalerie, in Klagenfurt.
