About the Artist

(1903-2005) "Victor Eugene Brenet studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1921. In 1935 he began traveling for the magazine L'Illustration and continued to work for the journal until it closed, making numerous trips and delivering many reports. In 1936 he was appointed offical painter to the French navy. He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur.

This artist painted a wide range of subjects from the world of aviation, the navy, car racing and the railways.  Brenet produced numerous posters for the airlines, including Air France.

A member of the Societe des Artistes Francais, in 1945 he exhibited at the Salon de la Mraine and in Oran at the fifth Salon des Peintres de la Mer (Painters of the Sea). In 2003 his work was featured in the group exhibition Luineuse Algerie, sous le Regard des Peintres de Marines (1830-1960) held at the Musee National de la Marine in Toulon. The 38th Salon del a Marine at the Musee de la Marine in Paris paid tribute to Brenet with an exhibition in 2003.  Also in 2003 the Maison des Traouiero in Perros-Guirec mounted an exhibition of his work."   taken from Benezit's Dictionary of Artists
