|About the Artist||
(1919-1999) It never hurts to have both your mother and grandmother known and respected as Santa Clara potters (Christina Naranjo and Sara Fina Tafoya).
As a single mother after the death of her husband, Joe, Teresita supported her four children by making pottery.
Her trademarks were refined shapes, graceful designs coupled with exceptional skill in polishing her pottery. Teresita's work has been featured in all kinds of pueblo pottery exhibitions of note. Sid Deusch's gallery in New York City included Teresita's pottery along with that of Margaret Tafoya.
The avanyu (plumed or water serpent alternatively called) is the design for which she is best known.
