About The Graceful Polychrome Pottery Jar

Shije's First Place ribbon is for traditionally painted vases.  Her name is written on the back of the ribbon along with the event.

Stepped stylized feathers frame each of the four birds.

About Eusebia Shije
(Born 1936, Zia pueblo)  For over sixty years, Eusebia Shije has made polychrome pottery, often graced with simple Zia bird designs.

Publications referencing her work include Arizona Highways magazine; Southwestern Pottery:  Anasazi to Zuni , Barbara Babcock's The Pueblo Storyteller: Development of a Figurative Ceramic Tradition and The Pottery of Zia Pueblo by Francis Harlow & Dwight Lannon.

Shije received numerous awards dating from 1976 forward.  Two years in a row she received the Richard M. Howard Award for Best Traditional Zia Pottery (1980, 1981).
