Creation of this beautiful ring was done using 14K yellow gold milled sheet and high dome half round drawn wire. Fabrication of the oval central bezel was framed with a scalloped petal channel of 22 compartments. The backing sheet has been hand cut with a decorative edge of 22 raindrops corresponding to the petal scallops of the inlay frame.
These channels are inlaid with perfectly matched, gem grade, natural strawberry red Mediterranean coral. Flush with the gold, the coral perfectly compliments the high-grade oval centerpiece of fiery Australian opal. This cabochon has a lot of green, evenly dispersed in a sea of pinks with flashes of purple.
Shank is a single high dome half-round drawn wire hammered to flare the front where it joins the setting back.

About the Artist | (Ferdinand born 1957, Sylvia born 1958, Zuni) Both full blood Zuni Pueblo tribal members, they are from families working in the jewelry business. Sylvia's family did petit point style of work using turquoise and lapis settings. In Ferdinand's family, his mother Etta Lynn Laate, his teacher was the silversmith. She always told him when she started working on jewelry: make sure no cracks in stones, make sure silver is all soldered right and make sure they are clean. When Ferdinand and Sylvia got together in the 1980's, they started working in channel inlay. Putting their ideas together they create many different designs with natural stone settings and using only sterling silver and 14K gold. |
