About Encarnacion Peña

(1902-1980) A nephew of the famous San Ildefonso potter, Maria Martinez, Jose Encarnacion Peña painted wall murals, watercolor paintings, made fetishes and unusual pottery figures.

His artwork is included in museums in both the United States and France.

Although Peña often signed his name Soqween or Soqueen, his Indian name Soukwawe meant Frost on the Mountain.
