About the Artist | (Born 1950) A resident of the artist's colony Tengenege, Guruve Zimbabwe, Davison Chakawa was taught by famed first generation sculptor Henry Munyaradzi to make sculpture in 1981. Formerly he worked as a carpenter and a basket weaver. Married, Davison Chakawa has five sons, two of whom are sculptors. Chakawa's sculpture has been exhibited at the Heritage Exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Harare between 1988 and 1994; Beelden op de Berg, Holland in 1989; Zimbabwe German Society in Harare in 1991 and at the National Gallery South African in Durban in 1992. |
