Sterling necklace of 12 blossoms and naja set with 167 turquoise stones made using sterling silver ingot sheet, wire and smelted drops. Natural, intense blue to green and teal-hued turquoise was hand cut into pear, oval and round cabochons for 167 settings.
Pears range from 5/16" X 3/16" to 7/8" X 7/16". Ovals are 3/8" X 1/4". Rounds are 3/16" in diameter. Each stone is nicely pillowed. Finish is satin with some original exterior texture.
Each of the 182 hand-made beads is made of two halves, formed using a hand-cut steel male-female die. Halves were pierced then soldered together leaving a girdle seam. A separate set of dies was created and used for each of the four graduated sizes. Diameters range from 3/8" to 1/4" in diameter. Wire "rope twist" accents and smelted silver "rain drops" are utilized throughout naja and blossoms, more to define areas and attractively fill spaces than to call attention to themselves as decoration.
The silver beads in this necklace resemble slightly baroque pearls. Its uniformly cut and shaped turquoise cabochons are finished with a quiet satin sheen flecked with areas of anomalous, original natural surface. This early necklace looks striking on both men and women !
