Silver ingot of sterling grade was used to create this elaborate spread 5 strand cuff. The shank is made of hand-drawn heavy gauge wire that has been swedged by hammering it into a groove cut into steel. Each piece was then decorated using hand cut steel stamps to create the symmetrical repeating design.
To achieve the balance required for an even 5 bar spread, the outer pieces were made a little longer. That feature would give the cuff a comfortable outward curve. The five "strands" are soldered to a mill rolled sheet of ingot silver at each terminal and carefully hand finished to a round taper.

Description | Spread bar shanks are very difficult to do well. Dealing with any added design factors, such as stamping, makes alignment even were challenging. Most multi strand cuffs are made of a single piece. The strands are plain and when spread, the outer bars always curve downward creating a domed overall look. This beautiful cuff required a special engineering that is so well done, it is taken for granted. The comfort, beauty and sensual qualities are all evident and this elegant work of art can be adjusted to fit up to a 7" wrist. |
