Bola Tie on Black Braided Leather

Duane Maktima

About The Bola Tie on Black Braided Leather

Sterling silver mill rolled sheet was used to fabricate the face and bezel pendant of this bola tie.  The same sheet material was used to fabricate the bolo tips with their disc terminals.

The artist executed the facial image in sawcut and hand stamped overlay of a smooth sheet on a uniquely deep textured background, adding interest to all the open areas and the perimeter.

This same leather like surface treatment is also present in the cone portion of each tip as an ornamental band tapering to a point at the desk terminal.

The bezeled pendant contains a crisply cut inlay divided horizontally in the middle by yellow gold seen as a bar separating the dark highly matrixed turquoise at the top from the mirror finished glassine orange and red gold slag beneath.  Round wire was used to attach the pendant and provide a figure 8 pass through behind the face piece for the bolo tie leather braid.
