Ingot silver, rolled and hammered into sheet, was carefully cut into two matching buckle shapes. Decoration involved the use in combination of at least three different hand-carved stamps which were struck deeply into the heavy gauge silver ornaments.
The hair pins are each also drawn from ingot silver. The curves and tips are plannished with a round headed hammer for strength and a dimpled pleasing texture. The serpentine curves of the wire beneath hair and buckle bar are hammered with an edge creating another decorative texture--fine ripples across the hair pin wires, helping to keep it from slipping out of hair and buckle.
These antique silver constructs are both thoughtfully engineered and uniquely beautiful.
