About the Artist

(Born 1950) Recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Washington, D.C. in both 1983 and 1995, this accomplished artist works both in two and three dimensional modes.

His tendency is to weave materials many of them atypical to form baskets, veils and bas reliefs.  These unique compositions can employ plastic elements, washers, corks, painted aluminum, copper, corn husks and bed springs for example.

Garrett's work is included in the permanent collections of the Albuquerque Museum in New Mexico; the American Crafts Museum in New York; the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the Detroit Institute of Art in Michigan; the High Museum in Atlanta, Georgia; the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in Minnesota; the Museum of California in Okland; the Philbrook Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the venerable Renwick Galley of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC.

This artist's artistry is currently on view at the Chiaroscuro Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and at the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, Missouri.
