About The Generously-Sized Migration Pattern Olla

This graceful jar is comfortably perched on a wood pedestal typically reserve for Chinese pottery.

The artist's fine line work echoes the curvature of the jar's contours.  Waves of stylized feathers are positioned above and below the jar's sloping shoulder.

About Fannie Nampeyo

(1904-1987) Hopi potter, a member of the Corn Clan, daughter of the original Nampeyo, Fannie had a stunning career as a master potter.

Perhaps Fannie is best known for her polychrome pottery featuring the migration pattern as well as rain, clouds, tail feathers and star imagery. In particular her black and red on yellow pottery is what I associate with this artist.
