About Eliot Candee Clark

(1883-1980) Son of noted landscape artist Walter Clark, Eliot Clark exhibited at New York's prestigious National Academy at age 13. He was greatly influenced by family friend John Twachtman and studied in Paris and Giverny between 1904-1906. In London he saw the Impressionist work of James Whistler, which influenced the direction of his own style. In the 1920's and 1930's Clark painted landscapes in the Southwest and in 1937 traveled to India for two years.

The artist's work hangs in fifteen major museums including the Louvre, Baltimore Museum of Fine Art, the Whitney and the Smithsonian.
