About the Artist

(Born circa 1965) Blacksheep's Navajo last name is Geneha.  Both her mother and her grandmother were rug weavers, while her father worked in leather.

After attending the University Northern Arizona, Blacksheep pursued work as an interior designer, an illustrator and finally a fine art painter working in gouache.  She was chosen poster artist for the Gallup Ceremonial in 1994 at which time her painting called Moonlight Harmony was featured.

Many of her paintings are about Navajo women and their relationships with their mothers.  Her work has been labeled "traditional contemporary" in Dr. Lester's book The Biographical Directory of Native American Painters.
