About the Artist | (Born 1944) An active photographer documenting cultures from Asia to Latin American, Zimmerman was formerly an educator. His photographic specialty is the culture of Japan, where he lived for two years and where his images have been widely published and exhibited. In more than 20 trips to Japan since his first visit in 1970, Zimmerman has traveled through all but two of Japan's 45 prefectures, has published his photographs in two prominent Japanese photographic journals and exhibited his photographs of Mexico in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka for a 1990 exhibition sponsored by GIP Publishing and Canon. His next major exhibit, images from 25 years of photographing the small village of Sonora, Mexico were displayed in Hermosillo in September as part of that city's Foto Septiembre arts celebration. He is the former President of the Phoenix Sister Cities commission, the former director of the International Studies program at Center High School, and the co-founder of Through Each Others Eyes.
