About the Artist | (Born 1963) Striving for a style in his landscapes that is uniquely his own and to convey the tranquility of landscape, Dan Robinson, paints in his Arizona studio from sketches he makes outdoors. Of his work he says: "I don't try to document what I see but rather react to what see and let those feelings come out through my hand" (Southwest Art 12/2000). Although he is a resident of Arizona, most of his landscapes are of snow, mountains, and the California coast. He is strongly influenced by artists Dan McCaw, Mark Daily, Clyde Aspevig, and John Asaro. For formal training, Robinson attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. In 1995, he earned the John F and Anna Lee Stacy Scholarship and in 1994 and 1995, the Grumbacher Gold Medallion. A special exhibition of his work was held January, 1999 at Overland Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he has been a regular teacher at the Scottsdale Artists School. |
