About the Artist

(Born circa 1950)  This Isleta potter began working with clay at the age of eight.  In 2001 Stella Teller became the first to be chosen SAR's first Eric and Barbara Dobkin Native American Artist Fellow.  This recognition resulted in a three-month Fellowship in March 2001, where she felt deeply appreciated for her contribution to the development of American Indian pottery.

Stella is known for her graceful ceramic male and female storytellers, whimsical story bears and other animals in muted hues of gray-blue, white and burnt sienna.

Teller has worked with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque and is the recipient of many national awards including those at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum Invitational show, the Big Lake Trading Post Museum show and the New Mexico International Women's Conference.  Her pottery has appear on the pages of Arizona Highways, American Indian Art Magazine (several issues), Southest Profile, Indian Artist as well as in books: Southwestern Pottery and Talking with the Clay.
