About Natalia Gontcharova

(1881-1962) Natalia Gontcharova was the daughter of an architect. She grew up in the Russian countryside. In 1898 she entered the Moscow Academy of Art, where she studied painting, sculpture and architecture.

Gontcharova incorporated elements of Russian folk art, Fauvism and Cubism.

She and her husband, Mikhail Larionov, moved to Paris where they collaborated in theatre and costume design in the Russian Ballet.  Her work was exhibited worldwide, last living in Paris.
