About the Artist

(1897-1974) An etcher, painter, teacher, writer, and lecturer Samuel Margolies was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 10, 1897.

He studied at the Cooper Union Art School in New York City, the National Academy of Design, and with V. Perard. He was a member of the Society of American Etchers, American Printmakers, American Veterans Society of Artists, and the American Artists Congress.

Margolies exhibited at the New York World's Fair in 1939, Mineola N. Y. State Fair, 1935 (prize); and the Queensboro Society of Allied Arts and Crafts in 1936 (prizes) and 1937 (prize). His work is in the Society of American Etchers, the Library of Congress and various embassies and federal buildings in Washington D. C.
