About The Echoes of Island Memories

Silver metallic enhancement corresponds to the notion of "gauffrage". Gauffrage enriches Meiji woodblock prints with silver or gold contrasting areas.

Daryl effectively uses broad areas of sterling silverleaf that has been sealed to perk up this entirely handsome and serene image.

About Daryl Howard
(Born 1949) A native Texan, Daryl resides on a 50 acre ranch outside of Austin. Her website is www.darylhoward.com.

Extensive international travel has affected her imagery. Her mixed media collage utilizes hand-made papers, metallic leaf and earth pigments.

Visually her work suggests Japanese woodblock prints. Having earned her BFA from Sam Houston State University, Daryl lived and taught art at an overseas school in Tokyo in the 1970's. An apprenticeship with master printmaker Hodaka Yoshida enabled her to function well in the realm of carving and printing from wood blocks.
