Fair, as there are two pinprick indentations in the sky as well as a meandering scratch slightly over an 1" in length. Circular mat hides mat burn around the circumference of the painting.

About Thomas Rowbotham

"Thomas Leeson Scarse Rowbotham, the Elder (1783-1853) worked in Bath and Bristol. He taught drawing and composition at the Royal Naval School in New Cross.

Rowbotham exhibited at the Suffolk Street Gallery in London in 1834. Examples of his work are included in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, as well as at the Bristol City Museum."   Benezit's Dictionary of Artists

Rowbotham was known as both a landscape and a marine painter. Betweeen 1815 and 1819 he exhibited in Dublin, following the start of his career in Bristol. Later Rowbotham returned to Bristol, where he became a co-founder of the Bristol Sketching Club in 1833.

A book by Rowbotham is titled The Art of Painting in Water-Colours.
