Picasso’s seated female measuring 57″ X 44″ sold for more than $40,000 per square inch at Christie’s during May 2021. The same painting was last sold in February 2013 at Sotheby’s for a little more than $40 Million. Its value increased by more than 2 1/2 times over a period of eight (8) years.
However, the most expensive (to date) painting by Picasso sold at auction brought $179,365,000 measuring 44″ X 57″ on May 1, 2015 at Christie’s New York. Titled Les Femmes d’Alger, it is pictured below.
What the highest price realized for a painting by Pablo Picasso NOT sold at auction (via a private sale), we may never know.
