(Born 1943-deceased) Art Cody Haungooah was born in 1943 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was the grandson of the famous Kiowa medicine man and scout James Haungooah, also known as Silverhorn.
Art married a Santa Clara woman, who encouraged him to decorate the pots she made. He became one of the early artists who did sgraffito engraved designs on pottery.
He is best known for his innovative sgraffito techniques on black and red ware jars, vases, bowls and sculpture. Art's life ended in a freak lightning accident and a head-on-collision.
