About the Artist

Russell Ricks was born in 1958 in Rexburg, Idaho, a town founded by his great-great grandfather. He spent most of his life there, until moving to Utah in 1997, where he now resides. Ricks received most of his art training through a national outdoor art school established by his father. He also studied in the art program at Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho). In the early 1980s, the May Gallery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming was Ricks' primary gallery. In 1984 he retired from the art business for a period, to focus on raising his young growing family. Ricks entered the commercial art field as a sign painter. He continued fine art painting in his spare time. He was commissioned on occasion to paint large-scale murals. Ricks returned to the fine arts business full-time in 2001. Russell Ricks created a 50-minute art instructional program for his local community TV channel. He is currently working with an independent filmmaker to produce a new series called "Creative Journey" with hope of it becoming syndicated nationally.
