(1938-2007) McGrath studied under California artists Phil Gilkerson, Leon Franks and Russian-born Sergei Bongart provided a solid foundation for Mc Grath's career in fine art. At the age of 24 he was awarded the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Fellowship Award which provided an opportunity for a painting trip to Central America. This trip was the beginning of a long and continuing relationship with the Mexican people.
While occasionally depicting still-lifes or landscapes. Mc Grath was a painter of the human figure. He was honored with over 40 exhibitions of his work. He was featured in Artists of the Rockies and the Golden West magazine and for many years was represented by O'Brien's Emporium in Scottsdale, Arizona.
