About the Artist

(Born 1938) Virginia Chinana is from Jemez pueblo, the daughter of Lupe Yepa, who also taught Virginia to make pottery.

Chinana is cited in The Pueblo and Navajo Contemporary Pottery book by Guy Berger and Nancy Schiffer (2000) and in Gregory Schaaf's publication Southern Pueblo Pottery 2000 Biographies. Virginia Chinana is known for her traditional polychrome jars, bowls and miniatures, having begun to make pottery in 1962. She signs her work "V.C. Jemez"
