(Born circa 1940) Don Staats resides in Sedona, Arizona where he and his wife create jewelry, sculpture and paintings.
A student at the Minnesota Institute of Art, Staats became a full-time artist in 1958, at which time he opened his first art studio in Phoenix, Arizona. He moved to Los Angeles in 1962, where he worked as a free-lance artist in automotive design.
After a near fatal car crash, he went back to the University of Minnesota before reopening his art studio in Phoenix. Casting bronze sculpture was his primary focus, with some examples as large as a life-sized horse.
Staats' current preference is working in jewelry, setting the gem and semi-precious stones he has assembled over the past 40 years.
