About the Artist

Don Nice was born in Visalia California in 1932. He was awarded a BFA from the University of Southern California in 1954, followed by a MFA from Yale University School of Art. Nice taught at the Minneapolis School of Art, Dartmouth College, as well as at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he also served as Dean. For the past 35 years he has served as artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire. He lives and maintains a studio on the banks of the Hudson River, in Garrison, New York. A pop-realist painter, printmaker, muralist, and art teacher, Nice gained recognition as a New Realist painter in the early 1960s. Don Nice’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Delaware Art Museum, in Wilmington, Delaware; the Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minnesota; the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, in New York, New York and the Arnhems Museum, Holland.
