(Born 1937, Cape Dorset) Quite simply Axangayuk's work is included in every major collection of Inuit sculpture in Canada. This artist's sculpture also appears in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The work has is earmarked by a combination of elegance and drama. The artist's choice of material imparts a rich look to each subject. Correspondingly, every major book covering Inuit sculpture includes at least one example of the artist's work dating back to 1971 forward.
Axangayuk began carving at the age of seventeen. In 2003 he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy. Since 1970 he has had 11 solo exhibitions, appearing in many group shows as well.
