About the Artist

(1927-1991) Preston's mother was a California Mission Indian, while his father was Hispanic. He was adopted by Nora and David Monongye, Hopi couple living at Hotevilla, Arizona. Apprenticed to his uncle, Gene Pooyama, Preston learned both silversmithing and painting. Charles Loloma and Preston exhibited their jewelry side by side. Both artists developed inlaid mosaic jewelry. Often Preston collaborated with artists such as Lee Yazzie, David Tsikewa as well as Morris & Sadie Laate. Preston's work is included in all the major publications featuring the fine Native American jewelry.
