About the Artist
Born in New York City, this artist was introduced to drawing by his father, Dewitt as a child. By fifteen he had one of his works exhibited at the National Academy of Design. He later studied briefly at the Art Students League in New York City, Academie Julian in Paris and the Boston Museum School.
In 1917 he settled in Santa Barbara, California and became known for his landscapes with figures, portraits and horses. As early as 1918 he exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art also in 1921; at the National Academy of Design in 1924 and 1927; the De Young Museum in 1935; the Crocker Art Gallery in Sacramento in 1942 and with the California Watercolor Society in 1958, 1962 and 1965.
Parshall was a member of the National Academy of Design; the Society of Western Artists; the California Art Club; Painters of the West; Santa Barbara Art Association; Los Angeles Art Association and the California Watercolor Society, serving as their President in 1947-1948.
