About the Artist
George Campbell Keahbone explained that many of the themes he painted, came from his imagination. Keahbone also admitted many of his ideas came from stories he heard from the old Kiowa people. He was also influenced by the artists he interfaced with at the Santa Fe Indian school, not to mention the fact that Spencer Asah was his uncle. Keahbone also studied under Dorothy Dunn.
Keahbone was the winner of awards at several venues such as the American Indian Exposition at Anadarko, Oklahoma; at the Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonials at Church Rock, New Mexico; at the New Mexico Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico and at the Philbrook Art Center.
Every major book covering Native American painters includes Keahbone's work.
