About the Artist

Joy Navasie (1919-2012) was the second Frog Woman. Her hallmark bears webbed feet, whereas her mother's hallmark wore straight toes.

Yellow Flower was active as a pottery maker between 1935 and 1995, fashioning jars, bowls, wedding vases, vase lamps, bird effigy bowls as well as lidded sugar and creamer jars. Some of her favorite designs are listed as rain, cloud, parrot and feathers. Often Joy used black and red decoration on white slipped pottery or simply black and white designs.

Nearly every collection focused on important Hopi pottery of the mid to late 20th century includes an example of Joy Navasie's work.
