About the Artist

Paul Lauritz was born in 1889 in Norway. At age sixteen he left home for Vancouver. Canada. He moved to Portland. Oregon. where he worked as a commercial artist and married in 1912. He and his wife moved to Alaska during the Gold Rush. Abandoning their quest for gold in 1919, the couple relocated to Los Angeles, California. Lauritz opened a studio and specialized in landscapes of southern California and of the deserts of California, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. He also taught at the Chouinard School of Art and the Otis Art Institute. Paul Lauritz was a member of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Commission and President of the California Art Club. He died in Glendale. California in 1975.
