About the Artist

This Hopi artist's hallmark employs two symbols, a star coupled with a crescent moon. A member of the Sun Clan, Hawee began making jewelry in 1959. He is cited in Gregory Schaaf's book American Indian Jewelry I, as well as Theda Bassman's book on Hopi Jewelry and Barton Wright's books delineating Hallmarks of the Southwest. A student at the Hopi Silvercraft Cooperative Guild, Hawee was best known for his silver overlay technique.
