About the Artist
Having earned his Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1958, Michael Graves entered Harvard University's Graduate School of Design and received a Master of Architecture degree the following year. Just two years later, Graves set aside his interest in furniture design, as he had been chosen the recipient of the Prix de Rome fellowship of the American Academy in Rome.
In Rome he studied painting and drawing. Buildings and the landscape were his focus. In 1962 he returned to the States to teach at Princeton University. His teaching career has continued throughout his life. Interestingly in 1979, Michael Graves was one of the first architects ccurrently practicing to be presented in a one-man show in a commercial art gallery (Max Protetch Gallery in New York).
Graves has exhibited his drawings and models in over 150 exhibitions throughout the world. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the Newardk Museum, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, the Berlin Museum and the Canadien Centre of Architecture.
Truly, a very special talent!
