About the Artist
Jim Harrison has been actively producing jewelry since the early 1980's. He is best known for mosaic inlay jewelry using gold, silver, coral, turquoise, sugilite, lapis lazuli and jet. The influence of Preston and Jessie Monongya is clearly evident in Harrison's aesthetic. Often he depicts Ye' ii figures, night star lit skies and Navajo landscapes.
A member of the Red House Clan, Harrison also creates drawings, photography and plays music and golf. He studied at Northern Arizona Universityin Flagstaff, Arizona, at the University of New Mexico and at the Academy of Arts Del Debbio in Paris, France.
Harrison's work has appeared in American Indian Art Magazine, in Cosmopolitan as well as Sunset Magazine. Jerry Jacka's volume Enduring Traditions: Art of the Navajo depicts his work on page 164, as does Lois Dubin's book North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment on page 531.
