About the Artist

James Castle is known for his delicate constructions of paper and string, as well as drawings of simplified houses, interiors and abstracted geometric personages. Castle spent his entire life in Idaho, and despite his severe physical handicaps--he was deaf and chose not to learn to speak, read or write--he created a rich, imaginary world. Castle's work has been enormously popular since its introduction to a wider audience at the Outsider Art Fair. Since then, his work has entered the collection of the Museum of Modern Art and has been the subject of solo exhibitions at, among other venues, at the Drawing Center (2000) and Knoedler & Company (2001 and 2002) in New York. In 2006 his work was again exhibited at Knoedler & Company in New York. Biographical information above was taken from AskArt.com
