About the Artist
Frances Naranjo Salazar, from Santa Clara Pueblo, was born in 1936. She learned to make pottery from her mother, Flora Naranjo. She was active as a potter from 1951, winning awards at the Heard Museum and the Eight Northern Indian Pueblos. Specializing in carved and painted blackware and redware, Salazar’s favorite designs were water serpents, kiva steps and feathers.
Pottery by Frances Salazar has been featured in Arizona Highways and Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Magazine.
