About the Artist

Christine Federighi received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1972. In 1974, she graduated from the Alfred University College of Ceramics with her MFA. She has taught art at Alfred University in 1974, the University of Georgia Studies Abraod Program in Corona Italy in 1981 and she is currently a Professor of Art at the University of Miami. Her artwork often revolves around the human figure and geometric designs. She makes tall gaunt human figures out of clay and then decorates them with upbeat designs and bright colors, which gives her work a unique appearance. She likes to play with textures, offering artworks that look familiar and alien at the same time. Federighi has been exhibiting her artwork since 1979. Recently she has showcased her work at the Sandy Carson Gallery in Denver, Miller Gallery in New York, R. Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, Coral Springs Museum in Florida and Riley Hawk Gallery in Ohio. Commissioned in 2000 to build a bronze sculpture for Fire Station #25 in San Mateo, California, Federighi received the Appreciation Award from Metro Dade County, Florida in 1995. The following year she was given "Florida's Finest" Award from the State of Florida. Her artwork is included in the public and private collections of various insitutions including the Monsanto Corporation Headquarters in Washington DC, the City Hall building of Orlando, Florida; Daytona Museum at Daytona Beach and the Museum of Art in Little Rock, Arkansas.
