About the Artist
Wilma DePavloff Parker was born in 1941 in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was awarded a BFA degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1963, followed by an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1966.
While at the RISD, the influence of the Abstract Expressionist was very strong. She went through what she refers to as her "Franz Kline period" before pursuing a style of painting that utilized photography as reference, airbrush and medium range colors.
Parker was commissioned both by the Navy and the Coast Guard, as well as IBM and the Fairmont Hotel. She was included in the 1986 inaugural of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum's "Looking at Earth".
Wilma Parker has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has had over twenty-five solo shows. Her work is represented in twelve museums, including The National Museum of Naval Aviation, the Palm Springs Desert Museum, as well as numerous corporate collections.
