About the Artist

(1867-1945) Strong social convictions permeate Kollwitz's work. Both a sculptor and a printmaker. Kathe Kollwitz (born Kathe Schmidt) married a doctor. Karl Kollwitz yielding her new surname. Together they lived in the poorer quarters of northern Berlin. Her work posed as a vehicle for social protest against the working conditions of the day as well as for World War I. Although many of her compositions focus on the great tragedies in life. she is well appreciated for her mother and child themes. Her name is forever linked with the art movement known as German expressionism. I consider it a privilege to be able to offer her work for sale.
